A Special Shabbat for Pride Week – Saturday, June 16

On Saturday, June 16, Congregation Bet Ha’am will be taking the show on the road and joining our Jewish community partners in supporting the LGBTQIA community. We hope you will join us this special celebration!

8:30 AM – 10:30 AM
Off-Site Shabbat Worship with Congregation Bet Ha’am
Instead of observing Shabbat at Bet Ha’am, we will join for Shabbat worship at Shay’s Grill Pub (18 Monument Way, Portland) on Monument Square from 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM. Thank you to Jen and Brian Brenerman, owners of Shay’s, for providing a convenient space for our service and for a tasty Kiddush nosh afterwards! All are welcome.

Please Note: Torah Study on Saturday, June 16 will occur within the framework of our special Sabbath service. We will not have a separate Torah Study session on Saturday, June 16. Our Shabbat morning service, including a Torah study discussion, will be held from 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM downtown at Shay’s.

If you are looking a more traditional worship alternative on Saturday morning, June 16, please consider joining Temple Beth El, 400 Deering Avenue, Portland, for their Shabbat morning worship, beginning at 9:30 AM.

11:15 AM – 1:00 PM
March with the Jewish Community of Southern Maine in the Portland Pride Parade
March with the Jewish Community of Southern Maine under one banner, from Monument Square to Deering Oaks Park, and show your support for both the Jewish and LGBTQIA Community. We will post our parade line-up location (Monument Square area) just after 10:00 AM via Facebook on the morning of the parade. Look for our “Happy Pride from the People Who Brought You the Rainbow” banner.

Co-sponsored with Temple Beth El, MJFF, JCA, Beth Israel Congregation, and PJ Library

1:00 PM
Festival Booth and Family Meetup and Picnic in Deering Oaks Park
After the march, stop by the Jewish Community of Southern Maine festival booth and say hello on your way to join Temple Beth El and PJ Library for a family friendly picnic with crafts and games in Deering Oaks Park. Temple Beth El will provide kid-friendly lunch items and blankets. All are welcome!

Pay Member Dues

Bet Ha’am plays an important role in all of our lives, providing an open door for all during High Holidays and throughout the year.

The need for supporting the Annual Fund cannot be overstated. These unrestricted funds ensure we can cover our basic, day-to-day needs and meet our budgetary responsibilities, from salaries to building maintenance to Hebrew School supplies.

Membership dues do not cover the full cost of Bet Ha’am’s operations. We rely on the generous support of our members and friends to make Bet Ha’am available to all, regardless of ability to pay.
