Adult Learning

Ongoing Learning Opportunities:

Torah Study

Join us each Saturday morning at 9:00 AM in the Adult Learning classroom to study the weekly Torah portion. Led by Rabbi Saks, this lively group engages in conversation guided by both classical and contemporary texts that help us understand the relevance of the ancient words and stories in our 21st century lives. No experience is necessary; everyone is welcome.

Introduction to Judaism

Rabbi Saks offers a 16 week Introduction to Judaism course, open to new and renewed Jewish learners. Though some who enroll will be considering conversion, this course is open to anyone who wants to develop his or her Jewish knowledge beyond the basic level. We will explore Jewish history, life cycle, holidays and rituals, theology, and so much more. If you are curious about Judaism or know someone who is, please contact the office to enroll in the next session.

Additional Learning Opportunities:

Bernstein Scholar-In-Residence Program

Bet Ha’am is fortunate to enjoy an annual weekend of study with a visiting scholar, made possible through the generosity of the Rosalyne S. and Sumner T. Bernstein Scholar-In-Residence Fund.

Past scholars have included: Dr. Nehemia Polen, Dr. Mark Washofsky, Rachael Freed, Rabbi Wayne Dosick, Dr. Meesh Hammer-Kossoy, Rabbi Robert M. Seltzer, Rabbi William Cutler, Rabbi Wendy I. Zierler, Rabbi Lawrence Kushner, and Rabbi Arthur Green.

Adult Learning Mini Series and Workshops

Periodically during the year, the Adult Learning Committee offers workshops as well as a three-part mini series of classes on a variety of topics, from scholarly to mystical, from ancient to current, and everything in between. Current offerings will be updated as available.

All programs are free of charge unless otherwise noted.

Pay Member Dues

Bet Ha’am plays an important role in all of our lives, providing an open door for all during High Holidays and throughout the year.

The need for supporting the Annual Fund cannot be overstated. These unrestricted funds ensure we can cover our basic, day-to-day needs and meet our budgetary responsibilities, from salaries to building maintenance to Hebrew School supplies.

Membership dues do not cover the full cost of Bet Ha’am’s operations. We rely on the generous support of our members and friends to make Bet Ha’am available to all, regardless of ability to pay.
